The Weekly Library Spotlight

The American Library Association's Ning Webpage
Its a new first!!! For the first time, the WLS (Weekly Library Spotlight) will turn its attention to a Ning webpage. Ning (the Chinese word for "peace") is a social networking site similar to MySpace and Facebook. It allows a user to create a social network around a certain subject. The first Ning webpage we will visit is that of the ALA, which can be accessed here.
I found this webpage to be superior to other social networking sites. Ning lets user's create a much more indepth webpage than other social networking sites. The layout of the webpage is also similar to other webpages then those found in MySpace or Facebook. Ning also offers users the same features as other social networking sites.
Familar features will great the user when they first enter the site. The option to watch videos, read blogs, and download podcasts. But the ALA page also offers a handy forum. A feature exclusive to this page is a book review of the day. It is nice to be able to read a little about a book as you catch up on your ALA news. The ALA Ning webpage is also a great place to start to find information about libraries. This is because it contains many links to other ALA webpages.
So take some time out of your busy schedule to learn about a new social networking site: Ning. And catch up on all your ALA news as you do it. This is Josh signing off, reminding you to join us next week where we will once again shine the spotlight on another great library social networking site.
